Your first year

  • Performance evaluation process - During the probationary period, your supervisor will meet with you to discuss your onboarding training and development. Based upon your role in the organization and your job duties, your supervisor will share with you goals and performance expectations which a new employee works toward during the probationary period. While it's expected that your supervisor meet with you regularly to offer guidance and support, at both the mid-way point and the end of a probation period, your supervisor also will conduct a performance evaluation to formalize feedback and the progress you've made towards meeting the established goals and expectations. At the end of your probationary period, your supervisor will work with you to set new goals and performance expectations for your annual performance evaluation.

  • State of Ohio pay scales - The State of Ohio uses several different pay scales depending on whether the position is bargaining unit (union) or exempt. If you have specific pay scale questions, contact your BWC personnel specialist who sent the initial "welcome" email.

  • Step increases - Employees successfully completing the mid-point of the probationary period are eligible to receive a pay/step increase to Step 2 that coincides with the position's assigned pay range. Pay/Step increases will continue on an annual basis, contingent upon successful annual performance evaluations, until the top step is reached.

  • Benefits - As you approach the end of the first year of employment, the Department of Administrative Services will mail a packet of information to the home address it has on file. The packet will contain dental and vision enrollment information, and other benefits information. It's important to enroll timely based on the dates provided in the materials and to include any documentation that may be necessary to show eligible dependent status (if these documents were not included when enrolling in medical benefits). Full instructions are in the packet.
