BWC awards Franklin County construction firm $35,000 workplace safety grant

COLUMBUS - Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) Administrator/CEO Steve Buehrer announced Teemok Construction Inc. in Franklin County has been awarded a Safety Intervention Grant to support workplace safety. BWC designed the Safety Intervention Grant Program to assist Ohio employers in reducing illnesses and injuries and to create a partnership with them to establish best practices for accident and injury prevention.

"We are pleased to work with Teemok, and any company looking to protect the health and wellbeing of their workers," said Buehrer. "The safety grant program is an outstanding resource for employers that have a firm commitment to workplace safety and are ready to make changes that can reduce injuries and claims costs."

Teemok is a full service construction company that provides construction services throughout Central Ohio The company received $35,874 to purchase a number of items to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders; dust and silica exposure; and slips, trips and falls. These items include rotary hammer drills with active torque control; dustless cutting system for concrete cutting; dustless cutting/grinding systems; dustless rotary hammer drills; electric breakers with active vibration reduction; battery powered tools to replace existing cord tools; laser range meters; and a ground penetrating radar device.

Ohio private and public employers are eligible for safety intervention grants, which include a 2-to-1 matching amount up to a maximum of $40,000 for a total of $60,000 - $20,000 from the employer and $40,000 from BWC. Quarterly data reports and follow-up case studies help BWC determine the effectiveness of employers' safety interventions and establish best practices.
