Allied Machine and Engineering Corp. Recognized for Safety Excellence

DOVER – As one of the nation's leading manufacturers of drilling systems and providers of metal cutting solutions, Allied Machine and Engineering Corp. of Dover (Tuscarawas County) has a firm appreciation of the safety and well-being of its workforce. The company has dedicated significant time and resources into training new and existing employees, and in the services it provides to its injured workers. By instituting an outstanding culture of safety, Allied Machine and Engineering Corp. has earned recognition as one of six Ohio employers to receive the Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award, presented today by BWC Administrator Marsha Ryan.

“Safety is always at the heart of everything we do at Allied Machine and Engineering,” said Executive Vice President Mike Stokey. “We have instituted specific safety goals and methods to ensure that each of our associates is educated on the latest safety practices and is conducting their duties within the safety guidelines. I’m confident that the recognition we are receiving with the Governor’s Excellence Award is because of the hard work and dedicated efforts of Allied’s work force and safety team.”

For more than a decade the Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award program has recognized Ohio businesses and public employers who provide a safe, cost-effective workplace for their employees, while also supporting their injured workers.

“Allied Machine and Engineering has been selected because of its strong commitment to create a safe work environment for its employees,” said Governor Ted Strickland. “The company has invested considerable time and energy into tailoring programs and methods that are meeting the safety needs of its workforce.”

Allied has developed a significant and successful safety training program that starts on an employees first day. Each of the company’s employees receives intensive training on environmental safety, as well as safe machine operation. Safety is a primary focus throughout the work day, with the company holding safety audits at least twice daily and participation in area safety councils.

“Allied Machine and Engineering has initiated outstanding practices to not only ensure the safety of its employees, but to reduce claims which keeps its workers’ compensation premiums low,” said BWC Administrator Marsha Ryan. “In a high-risk industry, Allied Machine and Engineering has exhibited outstanding vision in its safety initiatives and should serve as a model for all of Ohio’s public and private employers.”

Awards are presented to: three private, state-fund employers, two of these winners must have fewer than 100 employees; two awards are given to public employers; and the final winner is a self-insuring company.
