Ohio Employers to Receive More Than $29 Million in Safety Discounts

COLUMBUS – Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Administrator Marsha Ryan today announced that more than 6,000 Ohio employers, represented in 79 safety councils, will share more than $29 million in savings as a result of their successful participation in BWC’s Safety Council Discount Program.

“The safety of Ohio’s workforce is of the utmost importance,” said Administrator Ryan. “I’m pleased that the safety councils provide a forum where Ohio employers can receive safety education and training, which is resulting in measurable decreases in workplace injuries.”

BWC’s Division of Safety and Hygiene sponsors the safety councils, which chambers of commerce, trade and manufacturing associations, American Red Cross chapters or other local safety-minded groups organize. Safety councils provide local employers with quality programs that address occupational safety and health, workers’ compensation and risk management education, and information.

The FY07 Safety Council Discount Program required employers to meet participation eligibility requirements to receive a refund of four percent of their annual workers’ compensation premium. For more information about local safety councils, employers can call 1-800 OHIOBWC or visit ohiobwc.com.
