Montgomery County Recognized for Safety Excellence

DAYTON – BWC Administrator Marsha P. Ryan, on behalf of Governor Ted Strickland, today presented Montgomery County with the 2007 Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award. The award recognizes employers who have made outstanding efforts to ensure safety in their workplaces. Montgomery County is among six Ohio employers who will receive the award this month.

“Montgomery County has been selected because of its strong commitment to create a safe work environment for its employees,” said Governor Ted Strickland. “The County has invested considerable time and energy into tailoring programs and methods that are meeting the safety and educational needs of its workforce.”

In 2002, Montgomery County Commissioners unanimously supported a county-wide safety initiative which has been implemented over five years. The initiative is designed to help control workers’ comp costs, property/casualty losses, protect County assets and the well being of its employees.

“Montgomery County has initiated outstanding practices to not only ensure the safety of its employees, but to save taxpayer dollars by keeping its workers’ compensation premiums low,” said Administrator Ryan. “The County has exhibited outstanding vision in its safety initiatives and should serve as a model for all of Ohio’s public and private employers.”

For more than a decade the Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award program has recognized Ohio businesses and public employers who provide a safe, cost-effective workplace for their employees, while also supporting their injured workers. A local business organization, a state agency or a BWC employee can nominate a company for the award. Winners may also be self-nominated.

Awards are presented to: three private, state-fund employers, two of these winners must have fewer than 100 employees; two awards are given to public employers; and the final winner is a self-insuring company.
