Meet Business Process Analyst 2 Dy Kulp

October Employee of the Month

Quiet effectiveness.

These are the words that personify Business Process Analyst 2 and October Employee of the Month Dy Kulp, according to her nominator and supervisor Brian Galloway, an information technology manager 2.

“We can be confident that any project assigned to Dy will be handled in a meticulous, professional manner,” said Brian.

A 20-year BWC veteran, Dy works in the project management office as a project manager, responsible for managing high profile information technology assignments. Her most important current mission is managing the Core correspondence project, by working closely with both contractors and business customers to ensure that correspondence generated by the core system, PowerSuite, meets our needs.

Her humble, dedicated work ethic aside, Brian also nominated Dy for a brilliant money-saving idea: She recently saved BWC more than $50,000 annually by suggesting that we insert Version 3 correspondence into standard window envelopes - rather than paying to have the addresses sprayed onto plain envelopes.

“This innovation may seem obvious after the fact, but it would not have happened were it not for Dy’s willingness to point it out and press for its adoption,” said Brian. “The printing and handling of letters falls outside her normal duties, but she saw this opportunity and acted upon it.”

Dy was quick to say the idea for this cost savings was brought to her attention by another state agency. “But no one had taken the time to listen and follow through with the changes that in turn will save the bureau money every month,” she said.

Like many BWC employees, much of Dy’s day to day work goes on behind the scenes. But that doesn’t stop her, Brian said, from providing excellent customer service.

“Dy is an excellent advocate for our BWC customers,” he said. “She brings to the conversation a practical perspective that balances service, quality and cost.”

He added that Dy’s professionalism and commitment teaches many lessons.

“The first lesson, I think, is that an employee can make a tremendous contribution without necessarily being flashy or boisterous,” he said. “Secondly, as much as we work to optimize our business practices, there are still significant improvements waiting to be discovered by someone with insight and determination. Finally, BWC is a great place to work for people who want to reinvent themselves. In the past few years, Dy has successfully transitioned from mainframe technical support to project management. Not only does this new role fit her well, it also benefits BWC.”

Dy said she was very “excited, surprised and honored” to win the Employee of the Month award, but as far as she is concerned, stellar service is part of all of our job descriptions.

“We are all here to provide exceptional customer service to the injured workers and employers of Ohio,” she said.
