BWC spotlights workplace safety in Cambridge

BWC spotlights workplace safety in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE - Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) Administrator/CEO Sarah Morrison today recognized Greystone Health and Rehabilitation Center of Cambridge for its commitment to workplace safety.

Morrison visited the skilled nursing facility at 66731 Old Twenty One Road to watch staff demonstrate new equipment the center recently purchased with the help of a $39,000 Safety Intervention Grant from BWC.

"We love to see our safety grants in action and to recognize employers who work to keep their employees injury-free," said Morrison. "I encourage all Ohio employers to follow Greystone's example and consider the steps they can take to make their workplaces safer."

Brandon Reigle, Greystone's executive director, said staff members are exposed daily to potential sprains and strains from the pushing, pulling and bending they experience while helping patients and residents bathe, get in and out of bed or move around the facility. He said the center used its grant to purchase several patient slides, slings and lifts to ease those procedures and reduce the chance of injury for all involved. The center also purchased two specialized meal carts that are easier to roll and maneuver through the center than older carts.

"This grant helped us purchase some much-needed equipment," Reigle said. "It's eased the strain on our staff and residents and made for a safer work environment overall."

Greystone Health and Rehabilitation Center of Cambridge offers short term rehabilitation, long term care, hospice services, and respite care services.

BWC's Safety Intervention Grant Program assists Ohio employers in purchasing equipment to substantially reduce or eliminate injuries and illnesses associated with a particular task or operation. Funded by employer premiums, the grants are only one of many safety-focused services provided by BWC. Visit the safety section of bwc.ohio.gov to learn more about training, on-site consulting and other programs included as part of an employer's workers' compensation premiums.
