BWC recognizes safety councils for excellence in workplace safety education and training

COLUMBUS - Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) Administrator/CEO Steve Buehrer named the Ashland Area Safety Council the best in Ohio at BWC's annual Safety Council of the Year Awards ceremony earlier this week. The council is one of 82 across Ohio that are sponsored by BWC and serve as partners in educating Ohio employers and workers about the importance of workplace safety.

"Safety Councils do outstanding work in their communities to promote workplace safety, and the active participation of employers across Ohio shows their commitment to protecting their workforce from accidents and injuries," said Buehrer. "I congratulate the Ashland Area Safety Council, and all safety councils receiving this special recognition. Many of them went above and beyond throughout the year to bring attention to the importance of workplace safety and ensure employers are working to prevent injuries."

The Ashland Area Safety Council received the top recognition for its exceptional efforts to educate its members on effective workplace safety and health programming. The safety council, sponsored by the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, also participated in several safety oriented and community charitable events throughout the year.
