2015 Ohio Safety Congress & Expo Kicks off March 31 in Columbus

COLUMBUS - There's still time to register for the 2015 Ohio Safety Congress and Expo (OSC15), which begins March 31 and runs through April 2 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The annual occupational health and safety conference hosted by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) provides a venue to learn techniques for injury and illness prevention, rehabilitation, return-to-work and cost savings. Attendance is free of charge to Ohio employers and workers. College students participating in a degree that involves occupational health and safety may also attend for free.

OSC15 will feature more than 200 educational sessions offering the most current techniques for keeping workers safe, healthy and productive and opportunities for professional certifications. Several classes will feature live demonstrations, including:

  • Smoke, Fire and Water: A Hands-On Demonstration: The session provides a live demonstration and training opportunity of fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers and a fire evacuation.
  • You've Fallen: How Do You Get Down?: This training offers a live demonstration of a traditional high-angle rescue and techniques for quick, easy emergency evacuations.
  • Permit Required Confined Space Entry Demonstration: This class offers a live demonstration of confined space entry techniques.
  • Permit Required Confined Space Entry Rescue Demonstration: This session's presenters demonstrate an entry rescue into a confined space.
  • Effective Use of Portable Traffic Signals to Improve Work Zone and Roadway Safety: The presenter demonstrates how portable traffic signals improve work zone visibility and minimizes worker exposure to the hazards of moving vehicles and equipment.
OSC15 will also feature several nationally recognized speakers who will focus on creating higher performing workplaces and creating a culture of safety. Featured speakers include:
  • Wednesday, April 1, 9:30 a.m. BWC Administrator/CEO Steve Buehrer Cheryl Cran, Lead With 2020 Vision - Building the Workplace of the Future Today
  • Wednesday, April 1, 3:45 p.m.: Jack Park, Leadership Secrets on the Field and in the Workplace
  • Thursday, April 2, 9:30 a.m.: Zonya Foco, STREZZ FREE Solutions for Balancing Your Life
The conference last year attracted more than 6,000 from across Ohio.
