Chief Actuarial Officer Christopher Carlson

Chris Carlson joined the BWC in January of 2012. He's responsible for directing the activities of Actuarial Division with emphasis on setting employer premium rates to cover the cost of care for Ohioans injured on the job as well as estimating the future cost of claims currently being paid to assist in maintaining the financial solvency of BWC operated funds.

The Massachusetts native earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Oregon. He's amassed an impressive resume as an actuary, caddy on the professional tours, marathon runner and a world traveler.

Chris has worked for 40 years in the actuarial field beginning with Nationwide Insurance. He joined the BWC after working for Pinnacle Actuarial, an actuarial consulting firm headquartered in Illinois. Chris served as consultant to various insurance companies, insurance departments and state-run funds, including two Ohio funds. Chris even provided actuarial assistance to the audit firm of Schneider Downs, including projects for BWC.

Chris is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He is a past president of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), former chair of the CAS Board of Directors, and served CAS in several other capacities. He recently completed a six-year term as a member of the Actuarial Standards Board and served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA).

Chris and his wife of 40 years, Ann live in Upper Arlington. He is an avid downhill skiing in the winter while practicing and playing golf when the snow melts.
