Manufacturing includes establishments in the mechanical, physical, or chemical transformation of materials, substances, or components into new products. Often described as plants, factories, or mills and often use power-driven machines and materials-handling equipment.
Public employers include public schools, state agencies, state universities, university hospitals and taxing districts such as counties, cities, villages and townships.
Services includes establishments in services related to producing, distributing, and processing of data and information; finance and insurance; real estate and rental/leasing; professional, scientific and technical services; non-public education; arts, entertainment and recreations; accommodation and food services; hospitality and restaurants, waste management; and administrative and support services.
Transportation and warehousing establishments engage in the transportation of passengers and cargo, warehousing and storage for goods, scenic and sightseeing transportation, and support activities related to modes of transportation such as air, rail, water, road, and pipeline.
Utilities establishments engage in the generation, transmission, and/or distribution of electric power; natural gas or steam; water treatment and distribution; and sewage collection, treatment and removal.
Wholesale and retail trade establishments engage in wholesaling and retailing of merchandise, generally without transformation (growing or making), and rendering services incidental to the sale of merchandise. The merchandise includes the outputs of agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and publishing.
