Destination: Excellence

The ISSP progress look-up service offering allows tracking of current program year loss-prevention activity.

  • Industry Specific Safety Program,* which allows employers to earn a 3-percent premium rebate for completing loss-prevention activities, such as training classes or on-site consulting.
  • Drug-Free Safety Program, which yields a 4- or 7-percent premium rebate for businesses that incorporate an alcohol and drug testing and education program at their workplaces.
  • Transitional Work Bonus Program, which allows businesses to earn up to a 10-percent premium rebate for using a transitional work plan to successfully return an injured worker released with restrictions back to work by accommodating their needs.

Destination: Excellence is a bundle of programs that can help your organization improve workplace safety, enhance injured worker care and save money on workers' compensation costs. Destination: Excellence's options encourage you to use our valuable complimentary safety services and implement strategies that can prevent accidents and help injured workers recover faster.

Since its introduction, thousands of employers have signed up for at least one of the safety or care programs of Destination: Excellence, saving tens of millions of dollars through incentives, and possibly much more in the future when their premiums decline because of fewer accidents, and lower claims costs.

Industry-Specific Safety Program
Helps employers improve workplace safety by focusing on risks associated with specific industry types and developing strategies to prevent injuries. Requirements include completion of an online safety and claims management self-assessment and completion of one, two or three loss-prevention activities depending on the employer's payroll.
  • Less than or equal to $100,000 in payroll - complete one loss-prevention activity
  • More than $100,000 and up to $300,000 in payroll - complete two loss-prevention activities
  • More than $300,000 in payroll - complete three loss-prevention activities
Loss-prevention activities include industry-specific training classes, attendance at BWC's Ohio Safety Congress & Expo and/or on-site field consulting with one of our safety and health experts. Visit our Industry-Specific Safety Program page for more details.

Transitional work
Employers with an approved transitional work plan may receive a back-end discount for using the plan to return injured workers back to work. Visit our Transitional Work Bonus page for more details.

Transitional work grants
Additionally, employers that have not received a Transitional Work Grant from BWC in the past, may apply for funds to help them contract with certified transitional work developers to establish a transitional work program in their workplace.

Drug-Free Safety Program (DFSP)
DFSP provides a rebate for promoting a work environment free of drugs and alcohol. Requirements include implementing elements of either the basic or advanced level. Visit our DFSP information page for more details.

Safety councils
Employers can increase safety awareness and receive a premium rebate by participating in a local safety council. They can earn an additional rebate for reductions in claims frequency and severity. Rebate requirements are available on our safety councils page.

Vocational rehabilitation
Rewards employers that work with medical partners and BWC to provide vocational rehabilitation plans to return seriously injured workers back to the workplace. Click here for more information.
Negotiated payments from BWC as well as defraying of rehab costs through BWC surplus fund; applicable to claims with any date of injury.
Employers can reduce paperwork and receive a premium rebate for receiving their payroll report electronically, reporting their payroll and paying premiums in full here while helping the environment.

To reward timely payers, employers that have had no lapses in coverage during the past 60 months can receive a premium rebate.
